A small public service: do not build your afternoon around a closed museum. The Osaka Museum of Housing and Living is off the open-today list for now, however persuasive an old travel guide might be.
The museum’s own website announces a closure from September 1, 2026 through January 5, 2027. The museum’s own notice beats a tourism page listing the usual hours and ticket price. A tidy information box is not proof that anyone checked it this week.
The museum is known for its recreation of an Edo-period Osaka town and displays about life in later periods. It is in the Housing Information Center at 6-4-20 Tenjinbashi, Kita-ku. None of that makes it open during the announced closure.
Check the museum’s official notice before travelling there. Do not read the end of the closure window as a guaranteed reopening date; future exhibition and reopening information needs a fresh check.
Old Osaka is still worth your attention. Just not a trip to a locked door. Check the official notice before making plans, and give yesterday’s rainy-day list the skepticism it deserves.
