About Osaka Club

Osaka gets a bad rap from people who spent three days in Dotonbori, ate takoyaki, took the selfie, and went home convinced they’d seen the city.

They haven’t.

Osaka Club exists because Osaka deserves better than that. It’s the English-language home for everything genuinely interesting about Japan’s most chaotic, funniest, and most underrated major city — the neighborhoods nobody writes about, the bars that don’t have English menus, the food spots that only fill up after midnight, the cultural history that didn’t make it into the Lonely Planet.

Part long-form guide. Part street-level zine. Part love letter to a city that actually will love you back as much as you love it.

Contributors are locals, longtime expats, and the occasional well-calibrated tourist who knows the difference between visiting a city and actually seeing it. Every Sunday, Last Call opens the floor — reader contributions, dispatches from beyond Osaka, creative work, and anything else worth reading with a morning drink.
